7 Tips for Staying Fit and Getting Adequate Protein When Traveling

Traveling can be a great way to relax and explore new places, but it can also make it harder for us to keep up with our diet and exercise routines! So, how do we maintain our healthy habits when we’re on the move?

Here are 7 tips for staying fit and getting adequate protein when traveling:

  1. Plan your meals ahead of time. This will help you avoid making unhealthy choices when you're hungry and on the go. Pack snacks and meals that are high in protein, such as beef jerky, nuts, or of course, easily portable Slate Drink Mix

  2. Do some research on local restaurants. Many restaurants offer healthy options, even if they're not specifically marketed as "healthy." Look for restaurants that serve grilled or roasted meats, fish, or tofu. Avoid restaurants that serve a lot of fried food, processed meats, or dishes high in sugar.

  3. Don't be afraid to ask for substitutions. We know, it can be daunting. But when it comes to your health, it’s important! Asking for a salad instead of french fries, grilled meat/fish instead of fried, or even a high fat sauce/dressing on the side goes a long way.

  4. Take advantage of hotel gyms. Many hotels have gyms that you can use for free, and they can be pretty nice! If you're staying somewhere without a gym, find an easy at-home workout, or try looking for a local gym that offers a free day-pass.

  5. Stay hydrated. It's important to stay hydrated when you're traveling, especially if you're working out. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, and if you get a good sweat in, refuel with protein and electrolyte-rich beverages.

  6. Get enough sleep. Sleep is essential for muscle recovery. Make sure you're getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night even while you're traveling.

  7. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Everyone has setbacks from time to time. If you have a few unhealthy meals or skip a workout, don't sweat it. Just get back on track and keep moving forward.

There ya have it. With a little bit of planning and effort, you can stay healthy and active even when you're on the road.
